I’m guilty for most of what’s posted. I’m a firm believer that healthy eating is the best thing any person could do for their body. I love to do good for my body by not polluting it with drugs and toxic chemicals. I prefer Young Living essential oils instead of OTC drugs any day. They’ve proven to work and make me feel like I’m helping my body. I believe God provided everyone on earth with exactly what they need through earth’s supply. He gave us food to eat, water to drink, and oils for healing. However, with that being said, I’m finding there’s a trend among the herds of essential oil crowds (and even among myself) that needs to be addressed.
I’m not at all bashing anyone that uses essential oils. Like I’ve said already, I use them and love them! But I think it’s absolutely vital as Christians that we use the oils as a symbol to God that we’re trusting Him for healing instead of using man-made chemicals. I’ve started a routine when I use essential oils – I pray. I ask God for healing and restoration in my body. I ask that His Will be done, even if it’s not the outcome I’m looking for. (I expand on that thought a bit more on a previous blog post.)
With Young Living Essential Oils, there are many blends of oils. From Humility to Joy blends; Hope and Surrender blends; there’s an oil blend for almost everything. I fear that a lot of people use the oils as a way of reaching their fullest potential. For example, if someone feels hopeless, they might purchase the Hope Essential Oil blend and start using it to receive hope. I’m extremely guilty of this kind of thinking. I’ve used a few of the blends as a way of helping me become a ‘better person’ all around. However, this kind of thinking also eliminates God. According to the Young Living website, the description of the Hope Essential Oil blend is this:
“Hope™ helps you reconnect with feelings of strength and grounding, restoring hope for tomorrow. This unique blend brings together the benefits of essential oils with the power to uplift and balance the emotions, making you more open to the joys that lie ahead. It may also help to overcome severe, dark thoughts.”
As a believer, this fires up a righteous anger within me. The Bible says that God is hope (Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”). He’s the only definition. No oil or person can bring you true hope. Only Jesus Christ can bring hope to the hopeless.
If you’re a believer in essential oils and you’re a Christian, I ask that you assess your motive for using the oils. Be careful that you’re trusting God as your healer and not putting complete trust in the oils. If you eliminate God from the equation, what’s the difference in using oils vs. man-made drugs? Sure, one’s natural and one’s not, but if you’re truly seeking healing from God by using oils, then prayer should be your main tool for healing – not just essential oils.

“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
