Sacred Sunday’s

One of Webster’s Dictionary definitions of sacred is “reverently dedicated to some person, purpose, or object.”  What better way to describe a Sunday, the day most people attend a church of some kind?  From now on, Sundays will be labeled Sacred Sunday’s.

Basically, I want Sunday to be a day that either I write about my view of who God is or the world’s view.  I’d also love feedback from believer’s, athiests, etc, on whatever the topic is for the day.  The post for Sunday’s may be a well thought out blog post, or it may just be a quote/song I want you to think about.

For our first Sunday post, I’m just going to jot down some thoughts and I’d love to hear what YOU think.

I recently heard Chris Tomlin’s version of the hymn “Amazing Grace”.  I’ve heard the song a million times, but this time I paid close attention to the lyrics and the passion he put into the song as he sang.  After I listened, I went and looked up the lyrics.

It’s a phenomenal thing to actually grasp who God is, but it’s even more phenom when you understand His amazing grace.  I know in my life, I’ve struggled with self-doubt and self-worth, feeling like I never deserved God’s grace.  But that’s the beauty of it.  We don’t deserve it.  The definition of grace is –  unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification; approval or favor.  Often times people confuse the meaning of grace and mercy.  What I believe the difference is, grace is when we’re forgiven and then some, still non deserving of whatever we’re given.  Mercy is when we’re forgiven and non deserving, however, we still face a punishment.  Webster’s Dictionary describes mercy as “imprisonment rather than death imposed as penalty for first-degree murder”.

So my questions to you for our first Sacred Sunday is this:

1. Have you grasped what God’s amazing grace is, or do you not believe it exists?

2. How do you view grace and mercy?

For anyone who has never heard Chris Tomlin’s version of Amazing Grace, I’ve uploaded a video and the lyrics for you to hear and read along.

I hope you have a great rest of the weekend!

xoxo, Taylor

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) – Chris Tomlin

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine
